Lost shores<\/h2>\n

Climate change has already made sea levels rise. And it will get worse. Millions of kilometers of shores will disappear. To commemorate these lost shores I will capture some of them and make salt prints of them.<\/p>\n

I will publish photographs in these web pages and on my Twitter<\/a> and Instagram<\/a> accounts. I’ll probably create a Facebook account too. These are digital channels. Work aims for physical photos on salt prints<\/a>\u00a0and exhibitions, but you have to start somewhere.<\/p>\n

Salt prints<\/h3>\n

Salt prints are made with sea water I”ll collect from different locations at different times. This video documents my first collection of sea water: four 2,5dl jars. Jars were not the best one, some of them leaked. Weather was ok, it was only -1C. Idea is to use water from same area that photographs have been taken. For the curious place was in Ut\u00f6 isle<\/a> at\u00a059\u00b046’46″N 21\u00b022’04″E.<\/p>\n

Process<\/h3>\n

I collect sea water from locations I visit and photograph. Later I use collected sea water to make salt prints from photographs taken in the same place. Thick watercolour paper (Arches aquarelle 640gsm) is coated with sea water. After it has dried a layer of silver nitrate is applied on it in dark. Chemical reaction forms silver chloride, which is UV sensitive material. Paper can be exposed after it has dried.<\/p>\n

Sea water<\/h3>\n

I will store collected sea water for later use. Each jar of water will be label with collection time, place and coordinates. I might also store weather conditions and sea level height if that can be reliably found. Sea water storage is important part of the project. It documents tangibly in how many location I have visited. It may be essential for selling salt prints later. Originally collected sea water will eventually run out making it impossible to ever again reproduce another salt print with same set up.<\/p>\n
