Sea level App Demo

App is in Finnish, I know. There’s a good reason for it, it works only in Turku and it’s targeted for Finns. At top it shows when at current location land rose from the sea (post-glacial rebound). And at bottom when sea level might rise here. For sea level rise there will be three different models. The first model gives one meter rise by 2100. Second model gives three meter rise by 2100 and the third model gives five meter rise.

App makes it concrete how climate change and sea level rise will effect to urban area. Land rise counters the see level rise, but it also highlight rapid pace of the change. Human caused change will be visible in a few decades where post-glacial rebound has been on going for ten millenia.

Models are based at least loosely to the fifth report of IPCC. Current estimates on see level rise are about one meter. In the past there has been period when temperature was about 2 degrees higher and sea level was five meters higher. You could say that the first model is optimistic and the third is catastrophic.

App will be presented at Olohuone306.4 urban art festival in Turku, Finland. From June 9th to 11th, 2016.
